Thailand Tourism Statistics 2026

Thailand recorded 23.20 million international arrivals from January to September 2026, down 3.8% year on year. But the headline number hides some big differences between markets.

One of the clearest trends is how concentrated Thailand's tourism remains. China, Malaysia and India alone account for around 37% of all international arrivals, while the top 10 source markets contribute about 62%. This means changes in a relatively small number of countries can have a noticeable impact on Thailand's overall tourism performance.

China remains Thailand's largest visitor market, with February standing out as the strongest month of 2026 so far. Chinese arrivals peaked at 677,768, compared with 371,542 in February 2025, an increase of around 82% year-on-year. The surge coincided with the Chinese New Year holiday, highlighting the significant impact major Chinese travel periods can have on Thailand's monthly tourist arrivals.

The data also shows just how seasonal some long-haul markets are. Russian arrivals fell from 272,959 in January to 81,744 in September, while the UK dropped from 128,575 to 46,676 over the same period. Germany shows a similar winter-heavy pattern, with arrivals declining from 115,700 in January to 42,454 in September.

Malaysia is notably more stable than many of Thailand's other major markets. Apart from a sharp increase to 468,973 arrivals in May, monthly visitor numbers have generally remained between 261,325 and 346,581, making Malaysia one of Thailand's most consistent tourism sources throughout the year.
