Thailand visa-exemption rules are changing

From 15 September 2026, Thailand's current 60-day visa-exemption scheme will be adjusted. Many nationalities that previously received 60 days will receive 30 days instead.

What's changing?

Thailand is reducing its standard visa-exempt stay from 60 days to 30 days from 15 September 2026, ending the 60-day exemption scheme introduced in July 2024. The new rules also restructure which nationalities qualify for visa exemption, bilateral exemptions and Visa on Arrival.

Visa runs

Visa runs have long been treated as limited to two per calendar year. This is not a new stay-length rule, but Immigration has signalled closer attention to repeated visa-run patterns under the new measures.
